Clouded Leopards are medium-sized wild cats that are found in Asia. This species is the largest one among small to medium-sized wild cats. The Clouded Leopard is extremely secretive. One can hardly ever see the animal in the wild. The majority of Clouded Leopard pictures have been made in captivity.
Clouded Leopards have been listed as endangered by the United States Endangered Species Act and are considered vulnerable by the IUCN (International Union for the Conservation and Nature and Natural Resources).
Clouded Leopards are found in a few parts of Asia continent including Nepal, Taiwan, China, Java, Malaysia, and some other areas. They prefer tropical rainforests and dry woodlands. Clouded Leopards have also been noticed in highly elevated foothills of the Himalayas. The species tries to avoid human proximity and has rarely been seen in the wild.
Unlike other endangered species that often survive by the means of captive breeding, Clouded Leopards do not breed well in captivity. Most zoos that tried to breed the species have experienced difficulties in pairing Clouded Leopards. Males and females are often aggressive toward each other. It has been established that about 64% of institutions involved in breeding captive Clouded Leopards faced incompatibility of the mates.
